Bienvenidos: Nuestra casa es su casa

Familia y amigos:
Por tercera vez, aquí estamos: decididos y ya embarcados en otra aventura en el mundo de la adopción. No creemos poder ser una familia más feliz de la que ya somos, con la llegada de Lulú en el 2002 y de Pablito en el 2006. Pero se puede intentar, no?
Asi es que, con oraciones, valentía y determinación: Colombia, ahí vamos por tercera vez!
Nosotros siempre dijimos que queriamos 4 hijos, sin saber lo que la vida nos tenía por delante. Hemos sido bendecidos con dos. 4 sonaba bien. Ni muchos ni pocos. Un número par para que cuando salieramos, todos tuvieramos una pareja.
Estas aventuras de adoptar han tomado mucho más tiempo de lo que uno se pudiera imaginar y el tiempo no pasa en vano. Además, nunca descartamos la posibilidad de adoptar niños que no fueran bebés o que fueran hermanos. Así es que, por mil razones, esta vez estamos haciendo una solicitud para tres hermanos. Nuestra una consideración, si asi se puede llamar, es que Lulú siga siendo la mayor.
Por qué tres? La razones son muchas y nuestra situación es algo complicada. Ya no tendremos un número par pero 5 ya suena mejor que 4. El espacio en nuestra casa lo tenemos y el más importante, en nuestros corazones, ahí está. Somos, también, afortunados en contar con el apoyo de uds., familia y amigos cercanos.
No sabemos con certitud que seremos aprovados pero por nuestra lucha no va a quedar. Por ahorita, solo estamos esperando la aprovación de immigración para poder enviar nuestra solicitud a Colombia. Esperabamos ya tenerla allá para estas alturas pero por razones fuera de nuestro control, aun no se puede.

If you have come to this blog, you undoubtedly know of our plans to adopt for a third time. As with Pablo's journey, I'm vowing to keep this blog bilingual. It is not a easy as I may like it but we want to keep all of those interested informed.
So, the details:
How many children?
3. For various reasons we are requesting a sibling group of three yet to be identified children. Our only consideration/request is that our daughter Lulu remain the oldest. So three children, 6 and under
Country?
Colombia. Again. This time is through the country's Instituto Colombiano del Bienestar Familiar (ICBF). We won't know the specific city/region until we are approved.
Why not children from the U.S.?
For a lot of reasons. We'll give you the simpler ones. A piece of our hearts is already in Colombia. We welcome the opportunity to go back with our Colombian children to meet our new children and in the future, as they get older. We trust Colombia's adoption process, though it might seem lengthy.
How far are we?
We have been through our homestudy process, which is what determines our suitability to adopt. We are currently waiting for approval from immigration services. Once that is done, we can submit our papework (dossier) to Colombia.
How long will it it take?
That is indeed the 100 million dollar question. Each of our two previous adoptions was completed within different time frames. For those two, our situation was similar and we were applying to the same orphanage and for infants. This time around, we are in a very different
situation. We already have two small children at home, we are requesting a sibling group of three and immigration services has decided to change (significantly!) their form and format in which they approve individuals for inter-country adoptions. The changes in immigration have impacted the homestudy, the length of time to get approval and it will have an impact once (if we are lucky) we receive a referral. We had hoped to actually have our application in Colombia by now and now it looks like that might happen next year.

So, there you go. Adoption #3 in a nutshell. We are extremely happy to share our journey.
